Utah Attorney Avoids Jail Time in Internet Sex Case

Gregory Cohen a 35-year-old Salt Lake attorney has been sentenced to probation and 90 days home confinement for trying to arrange a sexual encounter with a minor online.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A 35-year-old Salt Lake attorney has been sentenced to probation and 90 days home confinement for trying to arrange a sexual encounter with a minor online.

Gregory Cohen had pleaded guilty to a felony count of trying to entice a 13-year-old girl over the Internet.

However, he was actually talking to an undercover police officer -- not a young girl.

Judge Ann Boyden said in sentencing yesterday that she didn't impose jail time because there was no actual victim. But she said the case was still serious because there could have been.

Cohen's attorneys said he didn't ever try to entice young girls online before, and he's remorseful for what he has done.

He allegedly claimed to be a 19-year-old, and arranged a time and place to meet the minor.
