Pornography investigation uncovers molestation suspect

A man at the center of a three-month child pornography investigation was arrested today on suspicion of sexually molesting two young girls that his mother were babysitting at their central Columbia home.

Luis G. Pereida, 27, of 1515 E. Walnut St., Apt. C, was arrested on suspicion of three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and two counts of first-degree statutory sodomy after he surrendered this afternoon at the Boone County Courthouse.

On Jan. 10, the Mid-Missouri Internet Crimes Task Force, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials, Boone County Sheriff’s deputies and Columbia police served a search warrant at Pereida’s residence and seized numerous items, including a computer. A search of the seized computer revealed more than 5,000 files of videos and pictures of child pornography, most of which were believed to have been downloaded online.

A second search warrant was served Feb. 15, and officers arrested Pereida on suspicion of possession of child pornography.
