An Idaho man pleaded guilty on Thursday to taking part in a vast global child pornography ring after authorities infiltrated the network, the US Justice Department said.

Warren Weber, 56, of Boise, Idaho, "has admitted to participating in a highly-sophisticated and well-organized criminal enterprise whose purpose was to proliferate child sex abuse images to its membership over a two year period," the department said in a statement.

The network trafficked in more than 400,000 images and videos, using sophisticated encryption, showing prepubescent children -- including toddlers --- engaged in a range of sexual and sadistic acts, it said.

Charges were brought against Weber and 13 others after the network was infiltrated by police starting in August 2006.

Weber pleaded guilty to a range of charges including participating in a child exploitation enterprise, advertising, transporting and receiving child pornography.
