A Columbia man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of sexually molesting two 6-year-old girls whom his mother babysat after authorities found videos and photos of the abuse.
Luis G. Pereida, 27, of 1515 E. Walnut St., Apt. C, was arrested on suspicion of three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and two counts of first-degree statutory sodomy after he surrendered at the Boone County Courthouse.
A search of the seized computer revealed about 5,480 photos and 329 videos of child pornography, most of which were believed to have been downloaded online, according to court documents.
Investigators later discovered that several of the photos and two videos showed a prepubescent girl being sexually molested by the suspect in his home. That child was identified along with a second girl who said she had been molested by Pereida in an apartment near Stephens College.
