A former math teacher at Western Reserve Academy in Hudson has been found guilty on nine counts of importuning.
Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason announced on Tuesday that Howard Kaplan, 58, a former teacher at Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, was found guilty for communicating sexual acts on the internet with an individual whom he believed was a 12-year-old girl. The Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force conducted the investigation.
Cuyahoga County prosecutors case against Kaplan stated that last May, Kaplan was in an Yahoo internet chatroom and began a conversation with a person he thought was a 12-year old girl. The person on the other end was actually an undercover investigator with the Internet Crimes against Children Task Force.
Using the screen name "Hakfisher", prosecutors say he chatted with the "girl" for several months,
"Today's conviction should remind parents that these predators have no boundaries when it comes to our children."
