A "sexually deviant man who couldn't control his urges" was sentenced to six years in jail Friday for hiding in the girl's washroom of Holy Name Catholic School in 2002 and sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl.
It was school policy that the Grade 2 student was escorted to the washroom by another student, who was waiting outside. But someone else was also waiting  - only inside the room behind the closed door. It was Paul Demarco, who the judge termed a "sexual predator."

The parents of the girl sat in court at the sentencing hearing of the 39-year-old and heard him apologize for the attack on their daughter
He told them he was "deeply ashamed"
his actions have scarred the child, who still has a fear of public washrooms and a continuing "loss of trust" in people
Christina Pirraglia told the court the impact of the attack went beyond the family, insisting the community was "devastated" to learn the safety of the school had been breached
