A New Zealander has been charged after allegedly attempting to smuggle hundreds of child pornography images on his laptop through Perth airport, customs says.
The 66-year-old man was stopped by customs officers at Perth International Airport when he arrived on a flight from Thailand yesterday.
"During a search of his baggage, officers examined the contents of a laptop. The laptop was allegedly found to contain hundreds of images of child pornography," customs said in a statement.
Customs executed a search and seizure warrant on a property in Daglish, in Perth's western suburbs, as a result of the man's arrest.
He faces a maximum penalty of a $A275,000 ($NZ320,475) and/or 10 years in prison.
The man was charged with importing goods in contravention of customs regulations and is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday.
